چکیده

A new numerical method for solving the twodimensional, steady, incompressible, viscous flow equations on a Curvilinear staggered grid is presented in this paper. The proposed methodology is finite difference based, but essentially takes advantage of the best features of two well-established numerical formulations, the finite difference and finite volume methods. Some weaknesses of the finite difference approach are removed by exploiting the strengths of the finite volume method. In particular, the issue of velocity-pressure coupling is dealt with in the proposed finite difference formulation by developing a pressure correction equation in a manner similar to the SIMPLE approach commonly used in finite volume formulations. However, since this is purely a finite difference formulation, numerical approximation of fluxes is not required. Results obtained from the present method are based on the first-order upwind scheme for the convective terms, but the methodology can easily be modified to accommodate higher order differencing schemes. Keywords—Curvilinear, finite difference, finite volume, SIMPLE.

Scientific Flow Field Simulation of Cruciform Missiles Through the Thin Layer Navier Stokes Equations

The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...

Boundary conditions and estimates for the linearized Navier-Stokes equations on staggered grids

In this paper we consider the linearized Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions under specified boundary conditions. We study both the continuous case and a discretization using a second order finite difference method on a staggered grid and derive estimates for both the analytic solution and the approximation on staggered grids. We present numerical experiments to verify our results.

A Fast Solver for Incompressible Navier-stokes Equations with Finite Difference Methods

In this paper, a fast direct solver for incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with nite diierence methods on the half-staggered grid is presented. To achieve this, new algorithms for diagonalizing a semi-deenite pair are developed. Our fast solver can also be extended to three dimensional case. The motivation and related issues in using this second kind of staggered grid are also discussed.

High-order accurate solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on massively parallel computers

High order methods are of great interest in the study of turbulent flows in complex geometries by means of direct simulation. With this goal in mind, the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are discretized in space by a compact fourth order finite difference method on a staggered grid. The equations are integrated in time by a second order semi-implicit method. Stable boundary conditions are...

A Fast Poisson Solver for the Finite Difference Solution of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

In this paper, a fast direct solver for the Poisson equation on the half-staggered grid is presented. The Poisson equation results from the projection method of the finite difference solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. To achieve our goal, new algorithms for diagonalizing a semidefinite pair are developed. The fast solver can also be extended to the three-dimensional case. T...
